  Sparks Medal

Each year, the Chi Phi Educational Trust awards the Sparks Medal to one member of each Chi Phi Chapter or Colony with the highest grade point average for the previous academic year.  Created in 1924 in honor of Edwin Erle Sparks, Alpha-Chi 1884, Iota 1884, president emeritus of Pennsylvania State College (now University) and a truly great Chi Phi, the Medal is Chi Phi's premier individual academic award.  A college/university administrator must nominate and complete the Sparks Medal Application to be valid.  Download the Sparks Medal Application and return it to the Chi Phi National Office. For more information please contact Kim Godwin.

Regional Leadership Alliance

Thanks to so many donors who support the Trust each year, the Trust provides a significant grant to fund the educational portion of the Regional Leadership Alliances (RLAs) held across the country.  During an RLA, brothers travel to a nearby chapter for a two-day educational experience tailored to the specific needs of the region. The RLA program has an impact on more chapters and students than every other leadership program offered by Chi Phi. It’s also one of the most cost-effective programs offered.    The Trust provides approximately $10,000 to cover half the cost of the values-based leadership training program. The National Fraternity pays the other half of the cost using revenue from the dues undergraduates pay to the national office.   During the 2008-2009 school year, RLAs were held at Texas A&M, UNC-Chapel Hill, West Georgia, the University of Denver, the University of Florida and at the University of Rhode Island.

New Member Manuals

Thanks to a grant from the Educational Trust, each new member of Chi Phi receives a current copy of the Chi Phi New Member Manual when they join their chapter.  Updated each year to reflect the needs of the newest Chi Phi generation, the Manual educates students about Chi Phi policies and bylaws, the new member education program, the Fraternity's anti-hazing policy and other tips to succeed in college.  Few fraternal organizations have the privilege of producing such an excellent manual that is annually updated for its membership.
